How to check that a dental clinic is licensed

· General information: it does not replace seeing a dentist.

In Spain, every dental clinic needs a health authorisation from its regional government to open, and every dentist must be registered with a professional college to practise. You can check both in a few minutes before booking.

1. The clinic: authorisation and health registry number

When the Junta de Andalucía authorises a centre, it enters it in its registry of healthcare centres with a number (on this site we call it NICA). The Spanish Ministry of Health brings together the centres authorised by every region in the General Registry of Healthcare Centres, Services and Establishments (REGCESS), which exists precisely so that anyone can look them up.

  • Search for the clinic in the REGCESS by name or town.
  • Many clinics publish their registry number in the footer of their website, in their legal notice or at the entrance.
  • On our clinic pages, when we know it, we show it next to the “NICA” badge.

2. The dentist: registration with the college

By law, professional colleges must offer a free public register of their members, with their name, registration number and qualifications. You can ask the clinic for the name and registration number of the dentist who will treat you and check it on the website of the provincial College of Dentists or of the General Council of Dentists.

3. Warning signs

  • You are not given a detailed written quote before treatment starts.
  • You are pressured to pay for the whole treatment upfront or to sign a loan on the spot.
  • They cannot or will not tell you which dentist will treat you.
  • They promise guaranteed results or use other patients’ before-and-after photos as a sales pitch.

How this site helps

Every clinic page links to the public source of its details and shows the health registry number when we know it. You can browse the clinics in Málaga city or read how we rank them.
